  • Together with Sporthilfe, the “Tipico Champion Fund” is being established – an elite sports funding program that provides the best athletes with the support to take the next step to the very top
  • Axel Hefer, CEO Tipico: “The ‘Tipico Champion Initiative’ specifically supports exceptional athletes on their path to the absolute world elite.”
  • Applications are now open. The Sporthilfe evaluation committee decides on funding allocation

The application phase for the “Tipico Champion Fund,” an elite sports funding program launched by Sporthilfe and the “Tipico Champion Initiative,” starts now. As a national sponsor of the German Sporthilfe Foundation, Tipico established the “Tipico Champion Fund” to provide particularly successful and promising elite athletes with additional, individualized support, enabling them to further develop as athletes and take the next step towards world-class performance.

The goal of the unique “Tipico Champion Fund” is to deliver measurable and comprehensive performance improvements through individualized funding. Athletes can apply for support in the areas of training and performance, material costs, physical and mental health and recovery, as well as nutrition. The fund is tailored to the individual needs of athletes who have already achieved notable initial successes and provides targeted support in the areas where they need it most on their path to medals and titles. In doing so, this funding specifically targets areas not covered by existing programs in the sports system.

Axel Hefer, CEO of Tipico, says: “The ‘Tipico Champion Initiative’ specifically supports exceptional athletes on their path to the absolute world elite. Germany needs role models who inspire through performance. We are very proud to actively help shape this journey.”

From Sporthilfe’s perspective, the “Tipico Champion Initiative” also sends an important signal for the support of athletes in Germany. “With the newly created ‘Tipico Champion Fund,’ we are responding to the demand of Sporthilfe-supported athletes for funding their individual projects. The initiative aims to provide the decisive momentum for future success in Olympic, Paralympic and Deaflympic sports during a pivotal phase of their careers – from early achievements to the leap to the next level – and to create a real boost for elite performance,” says Karin Orgeldinger, Sporthilfe Executive Board Member for Athlete Support.

For this new funding opportunity, athletes from the Sporthilfe Top Team as well as those from the Potential Team who have been part of the Top Team within the past 24 months can apply via an application form and a 30-second short video. In the video, they introduce themselves and explain how they intend to use the budget and what athletic goals they aim to achieve. After approval by the respective sports federation, the Sporthilfe evaluation committee decides which athletes will receive funding for their individual and tailored measures.
