Tipico CEO Jan Bolz discussed topic “Bettertainment” with industry experts

Under the motto “Digital Disruption – How to make your media future successful” industry experts meet at the 29th edition of the Munich Media Days this week. During the congress representatives discuss on the progressive digitalisation and related changes in the media landscape in 90 panels. On October 21, 2015, the event was opened by Ilse Aigner, the Bavarian State Minister for Economic Affairs and Media, Energy and Technology.

Tipico CEO Jan Bolz used the congress to discuss about the challenges in the context of the German gambling regulation within the framework of a panel of the German Association for Telecommunications and Media (DVTM). As a basis for discussion a newly released study by the Scientific Institute for Infrastructure and Communication Services (WIK) was used which dealt with the re-regulation of the so-called “Bettertainment” market including sports betting, poker/casino and online lotteries.

Together with Jan Bolz Jörg Wacker, FC Bayern board member, Prof. Dr. Patrick Sensburg, Member of the German Bundestag, Thomas Deissenberger, Sky Media CEO and Renatus Zille, Chairman of DVTM, summed up the results of the study.

Tipico CEO Jan Bolz explained that Tipico – unlike many competitors registered abroad – pays taxes to the German tax authorities, but would be strongly disadvantaged e.g. in its advertising opportunities as opposed to the state-owned lottery. Renatus Zille, DVTM CEO, confirmed this lack of equal opportunity and pointed out the possibilities of the internet use. “Online there are no more borders. One has to think in European terms and needs a convergent competition model, so that all share the same value-neutral regulations under one roof.” This, however, could only happen if concessions are not granted for a limited number of applicants but according to quality criteria.

Participants agreed that the gaming industry should continue to seek the dialogue with the political institutions. In this way, the competitiveness and equal opportunities are to be maintained together with the protection of consumers, data and minors.
